F5 mades it onto Forbes' list of midsize companies nationwide that are hiring aggressively, underscoring the growing importance of cloud computing and highlighting one of our region's most successful mid-sized companies.

F5 sells software that improves the security and speed with which large customers like Facebook can store and transfer information.

F5 says it has added 300 positions since last October. We covered this dynamic, rapidly-growing company in a story last December.

It's the success of mid-sized companies like F5 that could help pull our region out of the doldrums. Other strong companies in the region with good leadership and important franchises include Expedia, Esterline, Intermec and Itron..
