Play time for speed freaks.

Anyone who enjoys executive summaries that get to the point in a page or two will love 14/48, the “world’s quickest theater festival,” returning to ACT Theatre for its winter iteration January 6–7 and 13–14. As its name suggests, the twice-yearly festival produces 14 brand-new plays over 48 hours, and then does it all over again the following weekend: 14 new plays written, cast, directed, scored, rehearsed and staged in two days. Seven plays predicated on one theme are presented on Friday, and seven more, on a theme determined by Friday’s audience, take the stage Saturday. Each 10- to 15-minute production gets two stagings on its designated night: one at 8, another at 10:30. Over the years, the themes have included long-distance relationships, personal neurosis, kissing, forbidden fruit, great expectations and—we’re not making this up—biodiesel. Trust us. It’s a gas. $20. ACT Theatre, 700 Union St., Seattle; 206.292.7676; acttheatre.org.
