Seattle boasts numerous LEED-certified buildings, or structures that meet rigorous certifications in five categories: energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, materials, water savings and site selection. (LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).

Seattle ranks No. 7 in the United States for percentage of LEED-certified square footage in office buildings. Commercial real estate firm CBRE says “tenants benefit from energy savings and increased productivity, while owners benefit from higher asset value.” LEED-certified buildings, on average, command 31% higher rents.
