Sean Murphy

BECU recently welcomed Sean Murphy as its senior vice president and chief information security officer (CISO). In his new role, Sean is responsible for leading BECU’s Information Security team with a focus on creating a culture of cybersecurity at the credit union.

With more than 15 years of experience in leading information security and risk management, Murphy brings a wealth of knowledge to Washington’s largest credit union. He joined BECU from Premera Blue Cross where he served as the vice president and CISO since 2015. Prior to that, he held leadership positions in organizations nationwide, including Leidos and the U.S. Air Force.

Murphy is certified by several industry associations, including as a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) by the International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium (ISC)². He has earned his Masters of Business Administration with Advanced Information Technology Concentration from the University of South Florida, and is also a retired Air Force Medical Service Corps Officer with over 21 years of service.
