Healthcare Industry Leader Turns to Coaching, in Bid to Propel Patient Care to New Heights

Bellevue, WA – Marquis Leadership announced today the newest member of its team, Dr. Carlos Pellegrini. Dr. Pellegrini joins the executive coaching team, whose mission is to develop clinical leaders by fostering a culture of accountability, effective communication, and empathy to transform healthcare organizations. By building leadership and teamwork skills beyond those offered in medical school and residency training, the team helps professionals fill knowledge gaps, improve self-awareness, and set goals that drive personal performance.

Carlos Pellegrini MD, brings a rare pedigree of achievement, leadership, and lifelong expertise in surgical education to the team. As Chief Medical Officer and Professor and Chair Emeritus of the Department of Surgery at the University of Washington, and former faculty member at the University of California, San Francisco, Dr. Pellegrini holds over four decades of experience as a mentor, teacher, and advisor helping healthcare providers meet their full potential, with particular emphasis on leadership skills. In his 23 years as Department of Surgery Chair, he assumed a variety of leadership roles in the highest decision-making bodies across UW Medicine, chairing numerous committees and overseeing a wide array of initiatives from professional development to diversity practices.

“Professional development is a critical aspect of every health provider’s journey,” says Dr. Pellegrini. “Improving our skills is ultimately a commitment to our patients. There’s a chain reaction that occurs when we nurture excellent, resilient leaders – teams are more efficient, the working environment is more positive, and that translates into outstanding care for our patients.”

Dr. Pellegrini formerly served as President of the American College of Surgeons and the American Surgical Association and has also led several regional, national, and international surgical societies. He has published over 400 peer-reviewed articles, editorials, and books.

Following his retirement from UW Medicine, Dr. Pellegrini completed his professional training as an executive coach. “This combination of medical expertise, healthcare leadership, and coaching experience is incredibly rare and we couldn’t be more excited about Dr. Pellegrini’s decision to join the team,” says Glen Stewart, CEO of Marquis Leadership. “His depth of professional experience and philosophy of lifelong learning aligns perfectly with our dedication to helping healthcare clients achieve executive excellence.”
