Brett D’Antonio Formally Announced as CEO of
Habitat for Humanity Seattle – King County

SEATTLE (April 12, 2019) – Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King County formally announced that Brett D’Antonio is leading the organization as its new Chief Executive Officer. Since the departure last fall of Seattle – King County’s previous CEO, Gail Luxenberg, D’Antonio has served as Habitat’s Interim Executive Director. The organization recently saw a huge surge in fundraising at its annual luncheon, raising $1.3 million, nearly 70 percent more than the previous year and 40 percent more than its 2019 goal.

D’Antonio joined Habitat for Humanity Seattle – King County as Chief Operating Officer in April 2018, following nearly four years as Executive Director and four years as Construction Manager at Habitat of Island County, Washington, during which time he helped the affiliate double its operating budget from $1 million to $2 million. He also worked for a Habitat affiliate in Mississippi and served the nation as an AmeriCorps volunteer helping victims of Hurricane Katrina rebuild. D’Antonio holds a degree in finance from Penn State University.

“Brett has proved himself to be a capable and respected leader,” said Board Chair Steven Hill. “The Board of Directors is extremely pleased to have found the most qualified and best candidate for the position of CEO in our own backyard,” Hill said. “Brett brings an extraordinary background in construction management to Habitat, along with a unique perspective of our critical AmeriCorps volunteers, which results in the leadership skills and drive to help Habitat address the ever-growing housing affordability challenges in our community.”

D’Antonio’s focus will be on the organization’s work to provide opportunities for permanent affordability, stability and upward mobility to those it serves. “There has never been a more critical time in our community’s history for Habitat to be a key contributor to resolving the housing crisis in our region,” D’Antonio said. “I am honored and excited to guide Habitat over the coming years as we build strength, stability and self-reliance through affordable homeownership.”

From Redmond to Federal Way, Seattle to Snoqualimie, and many more communities in between, Habitat for Humanity Seattle – King County has built, renovated or repaired more than 500 homes serving over 1,800 residents during the past three decades. Over the first six months of 2019, Habitat for Humanity Seattle – King County will close on more houses than it did in all of 2018. Its home repair program is outpacing its new construction and serving a critical need to prevent displacement, and the organization will break ground soon on its first community within Seattle’s city limits in six years. Its Lake City townhome complex will soon be home to 16 families who will live within a reasonable commute to downtown in an eco-friendly Habitat community that’s within walking distance to schools, stores and services. The organization will also continue to develop the biggest home construction project in the history of the affiliate — 52 Habitat homes as part of the Fort Lawton redevelopment project in the Magnolia neighborhood of Seattle.
