Time Keepers

Stay fresh. This is how Dhruva Mikkelsen describes his entrepreneurial philosophy and the colorful wrist wear seen on celebrities such as former Seattle SuperSonics guard Gary Payton and rapper Lil Wayne.

You don’t have to be a professional athlete or a multiplatinum recording artist to appreciate this arm candy, though. A simple design and customizable options make it easy for anyone—from a teen fashion plate to a stylin’ CEO—to sport the ’80s retro look. Affordable prices ($45–$65 each) are another draw.

The SHOCKING GOAT watch faces come in 31 shades and pop easily into and out of silicone/rubber bands available in 19 hues. The website shockinggoat.com allows visitors to design their own timepieces.

Mikkelsen, founder and CEO of Shocking Goat, says the year-old Seattle-based company sells about 700 units a month online and expects to show up soon in major retail stores and boutiques.

“The brand encourages people to stand out and believe in themselves, be courageous and vulnerable,” he says. “The teenyboppers like it because of the colors, but this product attracts all. The ’80s are back and in full effect!”
