Perkins Coie’s Andy Culbert Receives 2016 Federal Circuit Bar Association President’s Award

SEATTLE, Wash. (July 21, 2016) — Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that Andy Culbert, a partner in the firm’s Intellectual Property (IP) practice in Seattle, has received the 2016 Federal Circuit Bar Association (FCBA) President’s Award.  The award was bestowed by FCBA president Nicholas Groombridge on Thursday, June 23 at the FCBA annual Bench & Bar Conference in Nashville, Tennessee.  Andy is the fourth recipient of this annual award.

The FCBA’s President’s Award recognizes long-term and demonstrated commitment to the improvement of the Federal Circuit justice system,  principled discourse on the most significant challenges to the system and the highest standards of professionalism.  The President’s Award distinguishes individuals whose personal and long-term FCBA contributions have made a major and material difference.  Through Andy’s service on the Board of Directors and in various other committee leadership roles in the FCBA, he has established broad understanding of global innovation and intellectual property. 

Andy has been actively involved in IP bar activities, including serving as a member of the Board of Governors of the FCBA from 2012-2015 and on the U.S./European Patent Office patent bar liaison committee.  He has also written and spoken extensively on intellectual property law and policy matters.  In January 2016, Andy was recognized by Law360 as one of the “Top 25 Icons Of IP.”  Andy joined Perkins Coie in May 2016; previously, he was Microsoft’s Associate General Counsel for Worldwide Intellectual Property Litigation.

The FCBA is a national organization for the bar of the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.  Leadership of the FCBA comes from all areas of the country and represents all areas of the legal community of the Federal Circuit.  The FCBA was organized to unite the different groups who practice within the legal community of the Federal Circuit.
