Alaska follows major airlines United, American and Delta in permanently ending its ticket change
The airline is the dominant carrier at Sea-Tac Airport, where last year it served more than 20 million passengers
Alaska also plans to join the global Oneworld alliance, which counts American as a founding member
The projected openings cover a wide range of jobs, including pilots, flight attendants, customer-service agents and software engineers, the company says
Airline has served 160,000 passengers out of the airport since launching flight service in March
The Boeing 737 Max aircraft crisis touches another aviation company with major operations in Seattle: Alaska Airlines, which has purchase commitments for 32 of the aircraft.
Despite its origins in the rugged north country, Alaska Airlines is a button-down shirt and wingtips. As recently as five years ago, it distributed Bible verses with its in-flight meals. Virgin America, meanwhile, with a provenance linked to the flamboyant entrepreneur Richard Branson, is more T-shirt and flip-flops.
Alaska Airlines says it will begin service from Paine Field in Everett in the fall of 2018.
