Bellevue-based Dragonchain is slated to become the subject of a major documentary series that will be released early next year and funded via a form of cryptocurrency called tokens.

The documentary series will trace the history of Dragonchain, which was originally developed inside Disney before spinning out on its own, as well as the evolution of the cryptic cryptocurrency industry in the United States.

A digital platform called Coiin will be used to create audience engagement for the series. Coiin rewards individuals who promote projects via social media with tokens that can be redeemed for a variety of offers, including ownership in select projects featured on the platform, such as films.

Dragonchain is part of a brave new world in cybersecurity, operating as an open-source private/public platform that delivers blockchain technology as a service ― with the goal of providing security and integration flexibility for business applications.

Blockchain is a coding technology that links blocks of transaction data together in a chain to create a highly secure digital ledger that exists across a distributed network of computers, so no single party can unilaterally alter the records. Its potential applications span a range of industries where transaction flexibility and security are prized, including the financial and health care sectors

Ironically, Dragonchain itself was launched in 2017 via a successful token sale, or initial coin offering, that raised about $15 million, with the tokens being redeemable for services and benefits via Dragonchain’s platform. The Bellevue-based company, which also has offices in London, Singapore and Rock Hill, South Carolina, with plans for a new office in Amsterdam, recently earned a Gold Award in Seattle Business magazine’s 2019 Tech Impact Awards.

The documentary series featuring Dragonchain is being produced by Vision Tree, which is on the cutting-edge of adapting blockchain technology, including coin offerings, for use in the media and entertainment market.

“The partnership with Vision Tree and Coiin present a perfect opportunity to bring our platform and ecosystem further and drive community engagement,” says Joe Roets, founder and chief executive officer of Dragonchain.
