When asked what makes their office the "ultimate office," employees at Absolute Mortgage in the Bellevue Northup Branch made it clear it was their co-workers and company values.
"The people and the management—no one person is greater than the other," wrote one employee, summarizing many of the comments submitted by employees as part of Seattle Business magazine’s 2017 survey of 100 Best Companies to Work For.
The company has 17 branch locations throughout the Pacific Northwest, providing communities with home mortgage knowledge, assistance and services in the best way they know how.
A Family Feel with a Star Staff
Employees at the Bellevue Northup office are thrilled about the culture of their office. Founded in 1996, the company has had a lot of time to perfect the work environment for its 165 employees.
“Everyone at Absolute is appreciated and respected for their unique offering to the company," explained one employee, "There is a great company culture here—we take routine outings for relationship building and bonding between teams so that we meet our end goals to the best of our team abilities."
"We have a great family culture," said another employee, calling attention to the closeness of co-workers and its affirming effects.
“It's a small business feeling within a large company,” added another.
Employees were also enthusiastic about the quality of communication, decision-making, and performance of their office.
“This has been such a great company to work for. I truly enjoy going to work each and every day. As much as I am often recruited by other companies, I am just too happy to consider working for any other employer," put one employee, "I am well paid, recognized for hard work and excellent communication, and respected on all levels.”
“We've got our own star wall!" another added, explaining that "employees are encouraged to recognize each other with a star to show thanks and hard work on a particular project.”
Great relationships between co-workers was frequently mentioned by employees, as well.
"I have never worked for a company that cared so much about the people within its own walls," wrote one employee. The office's work environment and recognition of achievements scored high marks from many.
"The work environment is comfortable, flexible and fosters a great work and life balance. I am so fortunate to be a part of such a great team from top to bottom," remarked an employee.
Another said, “The office I work in is small, but filled with people who want to work and are collaborative and helpful. Most of us live close by so the office is part of the community that we live in. We take time to experience the community at lunch, and after work, and support the community in other ways too.”
The altruistic and friendly atmosphere gives a boost to productivity.
“Our office is full of people who work very hard because they take ownership in what they do. Everyone that works in my office really cares about doing good work and helping one another whenever needed,” observed one employee.
“Everyone works together and on their own to make the best products possible. People care about others' well-being,” another added.
Leaders That Validate
A Liberian leader once said, "If the townspeople are happy, look to the chief." In this case, if the employees are happy, look to the management.
“Eric Bolstad is a true leader and passionate person for his employees, customers and clients,” remarked one employee about the President and company founder. In fact, leaders across the company "walk the walk and talk the talk and it makes all the difference, a massive positive difference,” according to another.
“Our branch manager promotes and encourages each person to strive for their individual best, as well as their corporate best,” said one employee.
Another elaborated, saying, “They place a high importance on work-life balance and provide you opportunities to work remotely when required and flexible scheduling to accommodate your lifestyle.”
Many employees focused on the positive relationships between upper management and the loan officers and assistants at Absolute Mortgage.
“It’s easy to speak your mind and ask questions when one doesn't feel like they will be turned away for a new idea or requesting clarification on an issue," explained an employee, "The company wants us to succeed—we help one another and it’s not a hardship or chore, but rather exciting to watch our fellow employees do well."
Another employee expanded on this, noting that Absolute's corporate culture “truly focuses on removing barriers to production—no lip service to it”, while a co-worker praised the fact that “management has a true desire to see people succeed in their strengths."
