10th Annual Camp Goodtimes Wine Auction
Good times are given to children affected by cancer during the American Cancer Society’s 10th annual Camp Goodtimes Wine Auction. The fundraising event for Camp Goodtimes West will be held at the Seattle Aquarium on April 16, 2013.
An evening of fine wines, unbelievable food, and spectacular items showcased in both silent and live auctions are put together in an effort to support Camp Goodtimes West, an American Cancer Society program for children. Over $1.35 million have been given to Camp Goodtimes West during the past nine years of the wine auction. With the help of sponsors, attendees, volunteers, and donors the wine auction will raise enough money to help more deserving children in 2013.
For thirty years Camp Goodtimes West has provided pediatric cancer patients, survivors, and their siblings ages 7-17 with a carefree week where cancer is forgotten and laughter is shared at no cost to families. 235 campers attended Camp Goodtimes West in 2012 and the proceeds from the 2013 wine auction go toward helping more children find joy during one of the two 2013 camp sessions.
Proceeds also fund the Camp Goodtimes Kayak Adventure Camp designed for young adults, ages 17-25, who have been affected by cancer. Campers kayak through the San Juan Islands and pitch their tents in the Pacific Northwest for a week of forgetting cancer and enjoying nature.
The Cancer Survivor College Scholarship is supported by the Paddle Raise. Each year, four recipients from Washington State who have been diagnosed with cancer receive a college scholarship of $2,500 with the opportunity of being awarded a total of $10,000. The 2012 Camp Goodtimes Wine Auction raised $27,800 for this program, a significant amount of the $142,500 awarded to students last year.
