William D. Ruckelshaus is co-chair of the Joint Ocean Commission Initiative established by President Obama in July to encourage progress toward meaningful ocean policy reform. Ruckelshaus previously chaired the Puget Sound Partnership’s leadership council. Ruckelshaus was the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s first administrator when the agency was formed in 1970. In 1973 he was appointed acting director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. President Reagan appointed him as the fifth EPA Administrator in 1983. He is currently, strategic director in the Madrona Venture Group (MIG), a Seattle-based investment company. Mr. Ruckelshaus graduated from Princeton University and Harvard University Law School.
