Swedish Medical Center, Seattle
Employees in Washington: 7,000

The Information Services Team of Swedish Medical Center hit a home run with a triple in the past year, successfully deploying services to three new facilities.

As more people live in the communities surrounding Seattle, the 101-year-old health care provider has expanded to serve them. Swedish opened a new center in Redmond last December, another in Mill Creek in February. In July, it opened a hospital in Issaquah, the first new hospital in King County in 25 years.

For CIO Janice Newells team, led by Jan McCallie, that meant rolling out the information backbone for each of these facilities in a nine-month period. At a modern health care center, that effort includes network infrastructure, paging, security and emergency radio systems, cellular, cable and phone service, medical devices, clinical networks and business information systems. Patients will see a highly integrated network of technology, from the digital capture of an insurance card at the registration desk to the MRI systems that create and catalog detailed internal views of the body.

Pacific Market International,
Seattle
Employees in Washington: 75

The familiar Stanley and Aladdin brands of Pacific Market International are nearly 100 years old, but the maker of food and beverage container solutions needed up-to-date systems in order to grow. Team-based design drove the replacement of the ad hoc mixture of software and spreadsheets on which the company had come to rely. The three-month implementation has helped PMIs sales force to analyze and identify new sales opportunities while aiding the companys call center in responding better to customer feedback. Through this process, the executive team has gained insight into operations that even a century of experience hadnt revealed.
