Hacker House: Not your mom’s basement

By Hallie Golden December 23, 2013

On the north end of Capitol Hill, the Seattle Hacker House offers tenants cheap housing and an opportunity to network. It costs $40 a night to sleep three to a room, $55 for two to a room and $70 for a private room. The eight residents, including a house captain, share two bathrooms.

The goal is to create this intellectually stimulating atmosphere where people are creating and collaborating, says Andy Rebele, an entrepreneur who founded the Hacker House with Andy Sack, managing director of Techstars.

Rebele says theres a need for cheap housing among young employees of tech companies and that he will start another house if he sees the demand.
